[FIC] Perfect
Title: Perfect
Fandom/Pairing: Arashi/ShoJun
Rating: PG
Notes: i apologize for the lateness, but i'm being weird lately and... ok i don't really want to elaborate on that anymore. this is a short-ish chapter, and is the second to last one.

...please do not hate/kill/bear grudges on me. no i'm serious, you have to promise me you won't. :(

not beta-ed. no still not mine. i sincerely feel that this is not one of my best chapters nor works, so comments and constructive criticism would be much appreciated on how i can improve this.

one. two. three. four. five.

Once, when it was raining and Sho stayed up a bit late--due to a DVD marathon--Jun told Sho to stay over. Sho protested, but Jun wouldn't have it any other way. Needless to say, Sho was staying over that night.

"Do you need to sleep?"

"No," Sho replied, watching as Jun's back as he prepared their dinner.

"Then where do you go when you leave?" Jun emerged from the kitchen carrying a bowl of pasta. "To heaven?"

"No," Sho seemingly contemplated on this for a moment. "I stay on your doorstep."

"What?"

"Your doorstep. I stay there." the angel watched as Jun awkwardly placed the bowl on the table.

"But why? You should've just stayed over then!" Jun felt angry, though he wasn't sure why. His guardian angel didn't exactly lie to him. Sho never told Jun where he goes when he leaves; Jun never really asked. Although now he felt like he had the right to know that seemingly smal detail.

"I can't protect you when I'm in here."

"Protect me from what?" he sounded rough, but it was no time to care for that. Jun felt that familiar rising energy brought by anger again. Though Sho was unaffected. He was sitting calmly in his seat.

"From harm. That's what guardian angels do."

They didn't get to discuss more of that because Sho refused to elaborate and Jun was too busy seething in his seat.

--

The pair made up sometime after dinner. It was a bit uncomfortable for both of them, and Jun hated feeling that; all the same he wanted to soothe things out with Sho. By the looks of it, Sho wanted the same thing since he was the one who approached Jun when he was washing the dishes. Sho didn't make a sound; he just stood there, a good distance from Jun. Jun could sense Sho's presence but went on with the dishes.

"I apologize for keeping that detail from you." Sho spoke in a voice that was filled with regret and sadness that Jun didn't want to see if his face mirrored the same amount of pain. He resisted taking a peek. "I want to protect you properly. I'm being selfish when I say this, but I just really, really want you to be safe."

"Why did everyone else forget about you?" Jun asked, casually changing the subject. They never talked about it, and Jun wanted to know what happened and why.

"Because I'm your guardian angel." he said it in an obvious tone, as if slightly hurt that Jun didn't get that earlier. Jun turned to face him for clarification, soapy hands and all. "There's no more need for people to know me now that you do. Because I'm yours. Yours and yours alone."

"Thank you." Jun said, feeling a difficulty to say the words at first. "Thank you for being my guardian angel."

--

Jun would never tell anyone this, but recently, he's been thinking of his future. Another year of building and constructing didn't seem appealing to him now, and Jun considered taking up cooking classes and maybe getting a chef title. He has saved enough and he's spent a good few years in his current carreer. It was reachable. Plausible. And somehow when Jun pictured it in his head, Sho was there.

Immaculately dressed, always smiling, wise-crack armed Sho.

It seemed so wrong not to include him in the future Jun dreamed about. He doesn't understand why and just goes on dreaming. Maybe someday, if he didn't tell anyone, it would come true.

--

"You're my friend."

Jun found himself saying so when Sho was telling him not to get so worried about him. Sho was more of a friend to him than Ninomiya, or their company's manager Aiba (who was usually friendly with everyone), or even Ohno, the guy he often bought groceries from (and is also a part-time artist). The aforementioned were the closest thing Jun had to friends--they see each other regularly, exchange conversation regularly and they get along fine. Even so, they can't really be called friends. With Sho, everything was different; Jun felt like Sho was much, much more than a friend but he thought that it would suffice for now.

"I'm happy to hear you say so." Sho smiled slowly, an amused smile. He looked like he almost didn't believe what Jun said. "You're my friend too, Matsumoto-kun."

"Call me Jun." he made a lot of demands concerning Sho. Jun doesn't know why he kept acting like a spoiled brat, but his emotions just run wild when he's with him. "Call me Jun and then I'll call you Sho."

"Okay, Jun." and Jun did not miss the chuckle in Sho's reply.

"That's good to hear, Sho."

--

"Are you feeling better today, Jun-kun?"

In the middle of arranging his notes for today's inspection, Ninomiya passed by his desk. Jun looked up, and in the corner of his eye, he saw Himiko straighten her back and purse her lips. Most of the time, Ninomiya means well, but there are times when he loved to tease. His teasing was something Jun didn't look forward to.

He had a feeling that was what was going to happen now.

"Ah, you look great today compared to the day before." the senior went on in a loud voice. "All it took was a night's rest, I see."

"Yeah."

"Matsumoto-kun, you were ill the day before, really?" Himiko rushed to his side of the desk.

"No, I was just tired--"

"You looked ill that day, Jun-kun." Ninomiya cut in, and Himiko's eyes widened. Jun wondered why the mere scent of Ninomiya didn't repel Himiko today.

"I'm fine now." he told the both of them.

"That's good to hear," Himiko sighed in relief. "Oh that reminds me Matsumoto-kun. I've been meaning to ask you why you were all smiles lately. Why are you so happy?"

"I just am." Jun shrugged, strangely enjoying the attention but hating the way it was given to him by these two.

"Is it possible that you've met someone?" Ninomiya gave him a knowing look and under his gaze, Jun stiffened. "Oh come on, tell us all about it."

"This is such great news!"

Jun rolled his eyes.

--

That night, Sho was out. Jun didn't know where he goes off when he disappears, but he always comes back before late, so Jun is comforted by that. To kill time, Jun ate dinner early, made a few calls for his appointments the next day and watched TV. Sho came in halfway through Jun's show.

"Hey," Jun greeted, raising his right arm just slightly.

"Good evening." Sho rallied back, taking a seat beside him on the couch.

They sat there for a while, the sounds from Jun's show filling the silence. Jun wasn't really interested--he gave up trying to understand what was happening even before Sho showed up--but tonight he doesn't know exactly what to say, so he kept to himself. Sho, as always, was just watching TV calmly.

When the show's theme song started to play, signalling the show's end for the day, Jun remembered a question he asked himself that day.

"Why did you only appear now?"

Sho looked up from the TV and asked him to repeat his question.

"Why did you appear only now? Couldn't you have appeared when I was younger? When I was a child perhaps? Why only now?"

It's not like Jun had a sad childhood. It was lonely at most, but his parents made sure he had a roof over his head, decent clothes, three square meals a day and a proper education. Jun couldn't really complain, especially not now, when he's got a decent paying job and a comfortable life. But time and again, Jun wondered what would've happened if Sho had appeared earlier. Would he have turned out different?

Sho looked at him straight in the eye, and right then and there Jun knew he was having difficulty answering.

"The truth is, Jun, you're going to die soon."

As Sho said the last word, the drama's melancholy theme song reached its final note. Jun couldn't really think of anything to reply. Once he recovered from shock though, he wished, yet again, that he didn't ask.

Hello, I just read all 4 chapters in one shot, so that's why this is my first comment.

You know, when you said it was the 2nd to last chapter, I should have expected something like that.
I'm excited to see where this ends (I would say "goes", but there's not much "going" left, ne?).
Uh, sorry this comment isn't very good, I've suddenly become very sleepy.♪(●′▽`)ノ才ャスミ冫シャーーィ
